Surface Ablator

The Surface Ablator is a Microwave ablation device design for ablation from the surface of the tissue.
Originally designed specifically to treat surface lesions on the liver the device proved useful for general large scale hemostasis during liver surgery and for ablation of liver resection margins.
The device comprises an emitting surface 20mm in diameter and emits microwave energy at 2.45gHz creating a 2.5cm deep cup shaped ablation.
The prototype device has been clinically tested at Leicester Royal Infirmary as well as Liverpool Aintree and North Manchester Hospitals. Further performance evaluations were conducted at the University of North Carolina and at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2005.
Development of the commercial version is ongoing with CE marking targeted for early 2009.
