Top US Cancer Hospitals Install MTA
Wed 25 June, Denmead. MD Anderson in Houston and Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York became the latest two top cancer centers to install the revolutionary new Acculis MTA microwave ablation system. The system, which allows surgeons to rapidly ablate non-resectable liver tumours during open surgery procedures, is currently in a limited commercial release to 14 leading centers around the world. The installations at MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan Kettering follow the first treatment in the USA at the Hospital of St Raphael in Connecticut by Dr Scott Helton. The US centres join leading UK institutions including Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, North Hants Hospital, Liverpool Aintree, North Manchester General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary in introducing the system. The sites are collaborating in an independent clinical audit and patient registry led by AUGIS in the UK. Installations at the final US sites are expected during July.
